Minnesota Twins Welcome Home Luncheon

Lexington Floral was proud to be a contributing sponsor for the 2012 Minnesota Twins Welcome Home Luncheon on Wednesday, April 11th. We created fun "Twins" themed centerpieces for the luncheon that was held at Target Field in Minneapolis. We were given the opportunity to provide centerpieces for this event through our Saint Paul Chamber of Commerce.

The centerpieces featured red and white tulips and white wax flower in a cylinder vase. To get the "Twins" blue in the mix we included blue gems at the bottom of the vase. To finish it off we lined the inside of the vase with curly willow.

A few of us employees from Lexington Floral were lucky enough to be able to attend the event. We enjoyed having Twins infielder Alexi Casilla sit at our table for lunch! We also learned about the upcoming season from other Twins players and the coaches. The centerpieces were raffled off to one person at each table and all proceeds went to the Twins Community Fund.

Easter Lilies

About the Easter Lily
The Latin name for the Easter Lily is Lilium longiflorum. The Easter Lily is native to the Ryukyu Islands of southern Japan. The beautiful trumpet-shaped white flowers symbolize purity, virtue, innocence and hope.  Over 95% of Easter Lilies used in the U.S. market are grown in parts of California and Oregon. The white lily is a fitting symbol of the greater meaning of Easter.

Making The Easter Lily Last
In the home the Easter lily prefers cool temperatures. Avoid placing the lily near excess heat, fireplaces and heating ducts. The Easter Lily will do best next to a window with natural daylight but avoid direct sunlight.

Easter Lilies prefer moderately moist, well-drained soil. Water the plant thoroughly when the soil surface feels dry to a light touch, but avoid over-watering. If the pot is wrapped in decorative foil, be careful not to let the plant sit in trapped, standing water.

After the last bloom has withered and has been cut away, you can continue to grow your Easter Lilies, and even plant them outside in your garden to enjoy them for years to come. Once the lilies have finished flowering, place the potted plants in a sunny location.

Saint Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick's day is only a few days away!

Each year Lexington Floral orders a few special green flowers to help our customers celebrate. Why green on Saint Patrick's Day? Originally the color associated with Saint Patrick's day was blue, over time the color green became more affiliated with Saint Patrick's day. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration as early as the 17th century.

Hibiscus in Flordia

While vacating in Southwest Florida I can not help but to take photos of all the beautiful flowers. Lexington Floral is always filled with flowers. Being from Minnesota it is fascinating to see tropical flowers growing in the wild during the middle of winter! Hibiscus is a common flower in southwest Florida.

Hibiscus is a flowering plant part of the mallow family. The flowers are large and trumpet-shaped with five or more petals. Hibiscus grows in many colors including: white, pink, red, orange, purple and yellow. There are several hundred species of hibiscus. One species, known as Kenar is used in paper-making. Another species, roselle, is used as a vegetable.
