Being from Minnesota it is fascinating to see tropical flowers growing in the wild during the middle of winter! Hibiscus is a common flower in southwest Florida.
Hibiscus is a flowering plant part of the mallow family. The flowers are large and trumpet-shaped with five or more petals. Hibiscus grows in many colors including: white, pink, red, orange, purple and yellow. There are several hundred species of hibiscus. One species, known as Kenar is used in paper-making. Another species, roselle, is used as a vegetable.
